Part 90: Episode 4, Day 2, Trial: Gourdy

This automated camera set up is clearly looking for Gourdy.

Sound: Stab

You know, why is there only a photo of one of the gunshots? Or did they just both look the same?

Not many picked up on it, but there are actually two solutions to this riddle! The article itself can also be used as proof, tying the loud noise from the article to the camera setup in the opposite order:
Sound: Desk Slam
The proof is this article about Gourdy the lake monster!
...!
Sound: Stab
According to this article...
(The article is displayed here, and for the next line.)
When Gourdy breaks through the water, it makes a loud noise!
Which is why you set up your camera with that microphone!
You had it set to respond to loud noises!
Sound: Realization
And that's how you got this picture when the pistol fired!

All other options are incorrect and incur a penalty:
Here's my proof! It's simple!
...
If it's simple... then why have you obviously made an error, Mr. Wright?
Urk...?
Sound: Light Bulb
What's that!?
Sound: Realization
Go home. Consider a career change.

(Gah!)

(How can they so casually toss aside this eviden... Oh. Whoops. Wrong evidence.)
Sound: Damage 2
Luckily for you, I'm in a patient mood, Mr. Wright. One more time please.
I guess Phoenix gave the penalty to himself there. I like the implication that this choice is so simple that the only way to get it wrong is to pick the wrong evidence by accident. Anyway, we do get to try again, assuming we haven't run our health bar dry.

Both sound effects play at once there. It's kind of weird, actually.
Music: Suspense

I think I've figured out where this is going. We're going to establish that the camera was automatic, so she wasn't actually awake watching the lake, and thus didn't see anything at all? Or maybe the first gunshot really did wake her up so she could see the second one?

We've hit Allegro! Time to finish off Ms. Hart!

Not seeing a lot there, we'll just have to press hard and see what shakes out.

It might just be me, but Karma's coming off a little desperate here. Objecting to all of our presses is one thing, but trying to keep us from crossing at all? Get outta here.

Sound: Desk Slam

There has to be something. All of Karma's objections have been trying to keep us from getting to this point.

Sound: Realization

I kind of figured that when we heard Allegro earlier, yes.

Ugh, a UFO. I can't say I've ever tried to pronounce that acronym as a word before.

I bet Lotta was camped out at Acorn Hill after that one, too.

Yeah, not making any headway there. We need to make some progress... somewhere.

Well, there goes my theory about there being multiple incidents. I'm working on a new theory - the first "bang" was Gourdy rising from the lake, and the second "bang" was Gourdy shooting the victim. And Lotta (and the camera) didn't see Gourdy because it was behind Edgeworth, making it look like Edgeworth had fired instead?

Sound: Objection

If that's the worst Karma can throw at us, we're in the clear.

I have no idea why Gourdy rising from the lake would sound like a gunshot. But I don't have any better ideas yet.

Sound: Realization

I guess we've found the line with the contradiction. Nothing is really coming to mind, though.

Hoping more than thinking at this point.

That you could see, anyway. I'd kind of forgotten about this other witness. Maybe that person shot the victim from the boathouse (which wasn't visible from Lotta's campsite), and then planted the gun in the boat? But how did it get Edgeworth's prints on it...

Well, I'm pretty sure we present something here, but I didn't have a clear idea as to what to present at first. Here's our current evidence list:

Reviewing the list didn't help me much, but writing up this update helped me figure something out. What do you think?
